Regulatory systems are made up 4 major functions. These are:
Control Functions: These functions control who can enter, operate and exit a specific jurisdiction. It is made up of certificate systems, permit and licensing systems, good standing registries etc.
Monitoring Functions: These functions track the activities of the entities that have been allowed to operate within a jurisdiction. It is made of vessel monitoring systems, vehicle monitoring systems, aircraft monitoring systems, financial monitoring systems etc.
Surveillance Functions: These functions analyze the activities of the entities operating within a jurisdiction and flags any suspicious behavior. The flagged entities are then targeted for surveillance.
Enforcement Functions: These functions are carried out when infringements or breaches have been detected. It is made up of link analysis systems, case management systems, blacklists etc.
